The Save-a-Cup scheme was set up by the vending and plastics industries to recycle as many as possible of the three-and-a-half billion polystyrene cups used each year. Answers are written on the Question Paper as candidates listen. This is a lower figure than in most other European countries, and needs to increase dramatically in the next few years if the government is going to meet its recycling targets. In order to understand what people are saying, it helps to know what their relationship is to each other and to you as the listener.

Part 1: It includes the conversation between two people that is related to a normal daily activity such as finding an accommodation or getting a library card. Knowing the context of a conversation also helps us to understand the language because it helps us to anticipate what the speakers are going to talk about. Another difficulty is that toughened glass used for cooking doesn't fully melt at the temperature required for other glass, and so that also has to be picked out by hand. While you are listening, write your answers on the question paper; use a pencil.
